Dear Residents,
Lower Heidelberg Township will be working with Asphalt Maintenance Solutions, Inc. this year to perform routine maintenance activities to several roadways throughout the Township. This work includes bituminous surface treatment (typically called oil & chip) as well as slurry seal. The following roads are included within this year’s contract:
- Summer Hill Drive (T-569) – From cul-de-sac to North Church Road
- Fox Glen Drive (T-568) – From cul-de-sac to North Church Road
- Knollwood Drive (T-550) – From Faust Road (T-497) to Faust Road (T-497)
- Wooltown Road (T-495) – From North Church Road to Heidelberg Township Line
- Sportsman Road (T-372) – From Wooltown Road (T-495) to Penn Avenue (S.R. 422)
- Wagner Road (T-538) – From Sweitzer Road (T-498) to Rebers Bridge Road
All of these roads will be oil & chipped this year. The work includes an application of either single or double oil & chip. Roads will be open to traffic for a minimum of two weeks following the application of oil & chip. After two weeks, sweeping of the roadways will take place. Summer Hill Drive, Fox Glen Drive, and Knollwood Drive will then receive a slurry seal after the oil & chip has been swept. This helps lock in the oil & chip surface in residential areas and areas of heavy turning movements. Roads which require double yellow lines or white edge lines will be repainted once the surface is clean and prepped for repainting.
Crack sealing will begin June 21 in advance of this work. Additionally, oil & chip signs will be installed for a minimum of two (2) weeks before the oil & chip work will begin. We ask that you be patient and maintain safe driving speeds. Freshly sealed surfaces can become slick at times. Additionally, slower speeds will reduce the risk of stone chips or fresh oil being flung onto your vehicle.
These types of maintenance processes are a budget-friendly way for Lower Heidelberg Township to extend the life of our infrastructure. Many of these roads were recently repaired and this will extend the service life of the driving surface. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
